We had a moment with Collins to reflect on the festival over the past years. "Atlantic City Cinefest has definitely proven themselves as a top tier film festival and by far one of the best if not the best in the state." Collins continued, " They have really come along way with the choices they make and the caliber of films that are screened now are impeccable. Founder Bill Sokolic is a such a film genius and started the festival for all the right reasons, to showcase and to expose great filmmakers, talent and films. Bill does a fantastic job and makes you feel very accomplished about your work along with the help of festival icon Ned Eckhardt and the rest of thier amazing board of trustees including Bill's family Carol, Joelle and Nichole. They take the time to sit with you make you feel comfortable and give fantastic constructive professional criticism. What separates them apart is the family feel almost like a Jerry McGuire movie you just know your film is in the right hands, at the right festival, surrounded with right people. I'm honored to call them my film family!
At last years festival Collins was awarded a "Lifesaver Created Growth" award for his success in film.
The coveted Lifesaver is the festivals top honor. Those in the past to receive the award were Chris Mulkey ("Boardwalk Empire", "Captain Phillips"), Brian O’Halloran ("Clerks"), Dominique Swain ("Face/Off","Lolita"), Kevin Smith ("Clerks"), Joe Piscopo ("SNL"), Martin Kove ("The Karate Kid"), Scott Rosenfelt ("Home Alone"), Terence Winter ("Vinyl",'"Boardwalk Empire") Tom Malloy ("Love N' Dancing"), Louis Mandylor ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding"), Peter Dobson ("Forrest Gump")
This year the Lifesaver award winners are Scott L. Schwartz who played Bruiser in “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Ocean’s Twelve” and “Ocean’s Thirteen" along with Emmy Award Winner Blanche Baker, who will host a Saturday night screening of the cult classic, John Hughes' “Sixteen Candles.” Baker, daughter of Oscar-nominated actress Carroll Baker, plays Ginny in the film, Molly Ringwald's older sister.
