Show Up, Take Seat, Lean In and Tell Your Story

Yolonda Brinkley, creator of Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes announced today plans to celebrate the voice and power of global women in film during the independently produced Diversity Day at the 69th Festival de Cannes. Women in Formation,a parallel section of the 2016 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase, will feature films from across the globe that capture unique female perspectives at a private screening in the south of France this May.

At a time when diverse feminine voices remain undervalued by those who still believe women should be seen and not heard, Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes, the independent global filmmaker movement promoting diversity of age, gender, physical ability, race, religion and sexual orientation at the Cannes Film Festival, provides a platform to promote their talent, creativity and storytelling prowess. With the spirit of Malala Yousafzai and countless women fighting for gender parity across multiple disciplines, the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase will celebrate the voice and power of women in film at the world's most prestigious entertainment industry event.

"While Hollywood, The Academy and the international film community sit on their asses creating reports and conducting studies about the industry's lack of diversity, in response to #OscarsSoWhite, Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes is making strides to shift the paradigm," Yolonda Brinkley, the organization's creator, comments. "The terms diversity, inclusion and integration are not simply trending topics for us. We have been in the trenches since 2010 promoting diversity in Cannes before it became popular. And our efforts continue in 2016 with the Women in Formation edition of the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase, encouraging women to show up, take a seat, lean in and tell their stories at the Cannes Film Festival."

The Beyond Borders: Diversity in CannesShort Film Showcase, Women in Formation edition, will give special distinction to six filmmakers who depict honorable images of the feminine voice at an independent screening during Diversity Day at the Cannes Film Festival. To culminate, these women along with general showcase participants and other trailblazing diversity advocates will be acknowledged at an awards reception in their honor.

In celebration of Women's History Month, female filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films and web-series to the 2016 Beyond Borders: Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase for consideration in the 'Women in Formation' edition. Regular submission deadline (3/14/16) extended through March 31, 2016 for women. Moreover, in accord with International Women's Day, the organization has made a #PledgeforParity offering $10 off today's submission fees for all women themed/crewed films. Hollywood’s Next Action Hero

Matt Erdems has been involved in martial arts since age eleven.  He excels in kickboxing, Muay Thai, Wushu and Shotokan Karate.  His records as an international competitive fighter are impressive.  As an amateur, he won over 85% of his 100+ fights.  In tournaments he fought as many as seven times in a single day.  His professional career is even more impressive, and he is in high demand with a large international following.

Soft-spoken, humble and unassuming, this likable and fascinating gentleman admitted that he’s very good at what he does.  “What he does” includes far more than his impressive fighting skills.  He is a very good film actor, stunt man and fight choreographer.  He was fight choreographer and stunt player on “Taken II” with Liam Neeson, for example.

In addition to his success in the fight game, Matt is recognized more and more for his acting abilities.  Already the subject of a documentary, there are a couple of “name” producers who think Matt Erdems’ entire life story should be told on the big screen – as a major motion picture.

His story is a fascinating one – from his youth in Istanbul to his world travel as a successful professional fighter to his completed military service in the Turkish Armed Forces to his success in the Hollywood-based film and television business.

I’m very disciplined,” Matt told us.  “I train hard and I train often.  When I have the time, I help others to reach their goals.  I’m a personal trainer in more ways than one.”

We asked him what his goals were in the entertainment industry.  “I’m going to keep fighting because I’m good at it.  But I’m also good in front of the camera.  I would like to continue combining both of those qualities in action films.”

We asked if Matt felt he could become Hollywood’s next action hero.  He smiled.  “That’s where everything seems to be heading,” he admitted.  So, does Hollywood now have its next action hero?  Those in the know believe it’s highly probable.  Watch for him.  Matt Erdems, action hero!  Matt Erdems.com

Seeking Valentina Nominated for Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award

Award-winning director Armin Nasseri wants to change the way U.S. audiences see ethnic minorities in the U.S., and it seems horror fans applaud Nasseri's efforts.  The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards were created by David Colton and Kerry Gammill at the Classic Horror Film Boards in 2002. The awards are fan-based, and have no connection to any commercial sponsor. Anyone in fandom can vote or propose nominees.  Nominees for the Rondo are selected from suggestions by horror fans, pros and enthusiasts offered all year at the CHFB. Each year's nominees are finalized by classic horror fan David Colton with the help of more than 20 classic horror fans from around the world, and with expertise in all parts of fandom.

Seeking Valentina, written and directed by Armin Nasseri, follows Benjamin (played by Ali Bavarian), an Iranian-American writer, in the pangs of grief. When Benjamin takes in a whimsical and an engaging tenant and she mysteriously disappears, it is for the audience to decide is she a ghost, a hallucination, a dream or a runaway.  Enigmatic and controversial to some, Seeking Valentina has received tremendous critical acclaim worldwide.  Nasseri vigorously resisted stereotyping throughout his production, and cast many actors against type.  Regarding his film's recent success both in the U.S. and abroad, Nasseri says, "I am deeply humbled and honored that Seeking Valentina continues to touch such a diverse audience and grateful to be nominated for Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards.”  Lead actress and producer Kristin West said, “We are so grateful to our fans who continue to cheer on this film and grateful to our indie horror and fantasy film community that have opened their hearts and minds to the message of Seeking Valentina.”  Seeking Valentina continues its festival run at a number of esteemed festival with screenings scheduled Bare Bones International Film Festival and the Las Vegas Galaxy Film Awards in April.

Internationally Acclaimed Australian Film OBSERVANCE Set To Terrorise Australia

Sterling Cinema today revealed its internationally acclaimed feature film OBSERVANCE has a new trailer and poster as they announced the film will be released in Australia by Umbrella Entertainment with its Australian Premiere set for Sunday the 3rd of April as a FilmInk Presents screening at the Randwick Ritz followed by a limited theatrical run nationwide.

The Joseph Sims-Dennett film has toured the global festival circuit including the BFI London Film Festival and Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival where it met with critical acclaim with The Hollywood Reporter describing the film as “One of the most chilling experiences,” Bloody-Disgusting proclaiming it to be “the best and most unique work of horror this year” and IndieWire stating “for sheer ambient dread, it’s aces”.

Australian director Sims-Dennett said, “The worldwide response to our small, personal, micro-budget film has been extraordinary — to have your work likened to that of Polanski, Lynch and Hitchcock, three directors I greatly admire, by respected publications like Sight & Sound and reviewers including Jason Gorber is both humbling and exciting, and yet also rather daunting.”

The independent film produced on the director’s credit card and filmed over 11 days during the hottest heat wave in Sydney’s history, has been a labour of love for the director which has started to pay off by taking the thriller/horror film genre world by storm.

Sight & Sound named OBSERVANCE as its number one film in the BFI London Film Festival’s Cult Strand, describing the film as “an intriguing, elliptical enigma” and that “Joseph Sims-Dennett’s OBSERVANCE brings the paranoid housebound sensibilities of Polanski’s ‘apartment trilogy’ into the twenty-first century”.

OBSERVANCE, a psychological thriller, tells of a private investigator embarking on an unusual assignment to observe a woman from an abandoned apartment, and while witnessing bizarre happenings surrounding her, is unaware the derelict building that he surveys her from has birthed a dark presence which slowly threatens to consume him.

OBSERVANCE stars Lindsay Farris, Stephanie King, Benedict Hardie, Tom O’Sullivan, Brendan Cowell and features John Jarratt and Roger Ward.

Sterling Cinema’s Sims-Dennett and Josh Zammit wrote and produced the film with Umbrella Entertainment distributing in Australia, Artsploitation in North America and Shoreline Entertainment managing international sales.

About A Weekend With The Family

A young attorney looks to gain a position at a prestigious law firm while secretly dating his boss’ daughter, who he’s hoping to marry; but when his loving girlfriend decides to arrange a surprise family weekend get-together, his plans blow up in his face, especially with the arrival of his “ghetto-fied” family, the Stankershets. Travis (Marques Houston) and Courtney (Karrueche Tran) portray love interests who struggle to hold on to their relationship all while their two families wage war in an explosion of hilarity. It’s the Far East against the Deep South; strict, traditional, Korean customs versus a backwards, country way of life. In the end, Travis must find a way to make the two families peacefully co-exist long enough for him to propose to the woman he loves.

“When we parted company with our former Festival Director Jason Cusato in 2015 we talked about replacing him with one of the great Brooklyn film makers in our network,” said Executive Director Joseph Shahadi. “We put together a short list of accomplished candidates and quickly realized that we’d be lucky to work with any of them… so we rethought the position and decided to invite a different Brooklyn film maker to helm the festival each year. Extreme Weaponry Productions Announces The Release of Many New Trailers for Upcoming WCP Movie

Shane West, Extreme Weaponry Productions Marketing Assistant says, "This is such a special release, we wanted to do something different so we decided to make multiple trailers. We wanted each trailer to focus on a particular emotion." Nelson continues, "We were careful not to divulge too much about the storyline. I know there are no spoilers and the viewers still will be left confused and confounded."

I've seen the first official trailer (link below) and it definitely delivers. I haven't seen the movie yet but the first official trailer definitely left me feeling confused and confounded.

The film was produced in association with Intolerance Records, Wasteful Consumption Patterns label, and Sotto Films, screenwriting company. The film follows around the two main band members, DJ Korpserape, played by J. Shepherd and Tombass, played by Thomas Mayberry as they encounter a multitude of issues, one being their fictitious label representative, Dick Slocum, played by Stephen Sterling, voiced by George Wilkinson.

At the conclusion of the production of the office scenes, it was discovered that all of the external audio, as well as the in-camera audio was unusable due to unplanned nearby construction noises. All sound effects and voices had to be reproduced in the Intolerance Records Thanatron studio. Unfortunately, Stephen Sterling, the character who played "Dick Slocum", was unavailable for overdub sessions so voiceover actor George Wilkinson was brought on board for the job. Each actor had to deliver their lines as closely to the original as possible in order for proper synchronization to occur. To make sure this was accomplished, each actor recorded their lines several different ways and the best version was selected in post editing sessions.

The movie was filmed over the past four years and includes footage from nearly every stop on the Wasteful Consumption Patterns Khrome Tour. With the help of eight cameramen, including fan footage, we have managed to piece together this "shock-rock mock-documentary." It's like Spinal Tap meets Hostel in Wonderland.

This unrated film is slated for International release this Summer.
