'I Am Neda' Politically Explosive Film Gets Nomination at the 7th Annual Lady Filmmakers Festival

Persepolis Pictures inaugural project, the bold, powerful, 'ripped from the headlines' politically-explosive short film 'I Am Neda' is based on the tragic true events surrounding the death of Neda Agha Soltan, the young Iranian woman, who in 2009 was gunned down during the non-violent protests in Iran which has become the 'Green Movement'.

'I Am Neda' was written & directed by first-time director Nicole Kian Sadighi, who also stars in the movie as Neda. To date the film has successfully been a finalist at 15 film festivals, including one of the biggest festivals in the world, Cannes American Pavilion for Emerging Filmmakers, where 'I Am Neda' was a finalist. Additionally 'I Am Neda' has also won 10 awards from these different festivals.

I AM NEDA will screen at the Lady Filmmakers Film Festival on Saturday 24th October @ 12PM at the Wilshire Screening Room, 8670 Wilshire Blvd, Ste 112, Beverly Hills, CA 90211

Director & Nominee Nicole Kian Sadighi noted: "As an actress who wore many hats for the making of 'I Am Neda', to be also recognized for my written & directorial debut is beyond thrilling. This film has been a huge endeavor for me as there were so many challenges along the way. I have a new found respects for the 'Clint Eastwoods' of this world who have not only wrote and directed but at times have starred in their own movies. I would also like to take this time to congratulate Mary Apick (Best Supporting Actress) for her stellar performance."

In response to the success of the film so far Kian Sadighi added: "To saythat I was overly excited would not do my sentiments any justice, receiving tremendous news is a great sense of achievement for me as a first- time director. At the same time in amongst the celebrations, it is also a time to reflect & contemplate why I began walking the path to make this movie in the first place. I really wanted to take a light & shine it on this tragic moment in history and focus on the inspiring legacy that Neda left behind. I made a vow to bring a voice to all of all the Neda's of the world who are not allowed to have a voice. That is the power of this film."

With recent reports that the film has been banned in Iran by the Iranian government, 'I Am Neda' continues to receive support & praise from its fan base, peers and film critics. "My goal has been the same from the beginning. It's to inspire & educate people & allow Neda's voice to live on through 'I Am Neda'. We would ultimately like this movie to get into as many film festivals as possible, to reach as many people as possible. Lady Filmmakers Film Festival is one of the more prestigious and special ones I have had my eye for while. Having missed their deadline last year, I didn't waste any time to make sure we got in this year. I love the festival for everything is stands for and I am honored that 'I Am Neda' will be a part of the 7th annual Ladyfilmmakers Festival. We'd like this movie to reach a worldwide audience so that Neda's legacy will live on forever. I think a festival like Ladyfilmmakers will be a catalyst to do that. Can't wait!"
