Horror film features household names like Danny Trejo, Corey Feldman, Eric Roberts, Chris Owen, Kurt Angle and Angelina Love.
Like it or not, The Epidemic is coming.
No, it’s not a medical catastrophe but a new zombie horror movie, The Epidemic, starring a bevy of well-known actors and personalities, promises to be a horrifying and memorable addition to the genre.
“The zombie culture has never been so hot,” noted Nigel Hartwell, the indie film’s co-producer and director. “Everywhere you look you see comic books, TV shows, movie franchises, costumes, zombie walks, etc.
“The Epidemic is not just another walking dead zombie film. It will be the most exciting, action-packed, gore-fest, with stars that everyone knows and loves.”
Included in the cast are Danny Trejo (Machete, Predators, From Dusk till Dawn), Corey Feldman (The Goonies, Gremlins, Lost Boys Trilogy), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, The Expendables)
Here’s a snapshot of the plot: After a meteor crashes into earth, an unexplained plague decimates a town’s population and yet ... the dead are not dying. They are becoming zombies and stalk endlessly for the taste of human flesh.
The town’s survivors seek refuge and attempt to fend off the monsters. Their comrades, however, begin to turn to zombies before their very eyes. In a desperate attempt to end the horror, a shocking truth is revealed about this particular brand of zombies.
The production budget is $1.4 million. So far, $750,000 in Canadian grants have been secured and the Producers have invested $70,000 of their own money. They have attached worldwide distribution in which pre-sales are now being executed. The Epidemic team is hoping that an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign will provide the remaining $75,000
The Indiegogo page, which includes two trailers, can be viewed at https://www.indiegogo.com/
Donations of any amount are welcome and The Epidemic team is counting on zombie fans from all over the world to rise to the occasion and support this project. For $25, backers will receive their choice of a DVD or an Epidemic cap or shirt.
There are also perks that include being a zombie, having a cameo and even being an actor. This campaign also has perks for musicians to get their music featured in the film.
“We want to bring this movie to zombie fans all over the world at the same,” Hartwell said. “That is why we have chosen crowdfunding. We believe a film needs to be available, and it’s you – the audience – who will decide when, where and how.”
