A total of 40 films, documentaries and shorts, were screened in this year’s competition. In addition to the awards by the competition jury the audience also voted for their favorites for the audience awards. The jury members are Haden Guest, Director of the Harvard Film Archive, Peter Keough, Film Critic, and Carter Long, Film Curator of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
The award recipient films are as follows;
Best Documentary Award: “A Dream School in the Steppes” (Tepecik Hayal Okulu) by Güliz Sağlam
Best Short Film Award: “Ağrı and the Mountain” (Ağrı ve Dağ) by Hasan Serin
Best Documentary Audience Award: “Tonita’s”
Best Short Film Audience Award: “Ziazan” by Derya Durmaz
Once again this year special mentions of the jury were announced in the competition.
Special Mentions in the Documentary Category are:

“Jazz in Turkey” (Türkiye’de Caz) by Batu Akyol
“Kamilet” by İlkay Nişancı
“Last Urartian” (Son Urartulu) by Fuat Demirhan

“Unburied in the Past” (Hay Way Zaman) by Nezahat Gündoğan
“Water Bedouins” (Su Bedevileri) by Ömer Güneş
Special Mentions in the Short Film Category are:
“Cafe de Bookhouse” (Café de Kitap) by Emrah Cevher
“The Country Road” (Patika) by Onur Yağız
“8 Months” (8 Ay) by Hüseyin Aydın Gürsoy
“Ice Cream” (Dondurma) by Serhat Karaaslan
“Letters to Cyprus” (Kıbrıs’a Mektuplar) by Sholeh Zahraei and Kamil Saldun
“Roya” by Alper Akdeniz
“Stairs” (Merdivenler)
Submissions for next year’s competition will begin on March 1, 2015.
The competition is organized by the Turkish American Cultural Society of New England (TACS-NE) in Boston, established in 1964.
