Bostonians are in love with Aziz Ansari and so is he now that the city’s historic Wilbur theatre has broken its own record for
selling out the most consecutive shows. Ansari, known for his beloved character Tom Haverford on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” broke the record previously held
by comedian Kevin Hart, selling over 8,800 tickets. Ansari has eight sold out shows with a ninth currently on sale.
“Boston has become a marquee city for Aziz Ansari and we are thrilled that he will be taking the stage for eight sold out shows with a ninth on its way. ,” said Bill Blumenreich, owner of The Wilbur. “We are proud to be one of the top selling markets for Aziz and are averaging numbers that surpass markets such as New York and Los Angeles.”
Aziz Ansari is one of the biggest stars in the comedy world. Rolling Stone put him on the cover of its special comedy issue labeling him “The Funniest Man Under 30.” He recently debuted his anticipated third hour-long stand-up special “Buried Alive” on Netflix in November, which was named one of the best standup specials of the year by The Onion, AV Club and Paste Magazine. Ansari co-stars opposite Amy Poehler in the beloved Emmy-nominated NBC series “Parks and Recreation,” which is now in its sixth season. Ansari’s portrayal of government employee ‘Tom Haverford’ has earned him critical praise including Entertainment Weekly naming him one of its “Breakout TV Stars,” TV Guide naming him a “Scene Stealer” and People Magazine naming him 2011’s “Funniest Dude in Prime Time.”
