Another Time Travel Movie Banned in China
China’s ban on television and movies pertaining to time travel has affected yet another films chance of being distributed in a country with the world’s largest population.
For those of you who don’t know, China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) decided to block movies and television of the time travel genre in March of 2011.
According to Raymond Zhou Liming, a film critic and journalists in China, “The rationale [for the time travel ban] is that whatever isn’t possible in the real world belongs to superstition.”
The current prohibition was covered by major media news outlets ranging from The Guardian to the Hollywood Reporter when the story first broke. While no one knows how far the ban will go, it is safe to say that it will have an impact on how foreign films of the time travel nature will be promoted and distributed in China from now on.
In fact, one recently released American made Sci-Fi thriller The Investigation of a Time Traveler will suffer. It already won’t show up on searches in Baidu.com, China’s largest search engine.
The Investigation of a Time Traveler is the story about a homeless, schizophrenic doctor who has invented a time machine. The doctor is being investigated by a rogue detective for the disappearance of his wife, Mia.
The movie is a mind bending crime drama, mixed with elements of time travel, filmed predominantly in the seedier parts of Los Angeles.
A representative for the movie The Investigation of a Time Traveler states, “It’s disappointing because we were looking forward to tapping the Chinese market with our film. Based on this new ban, it’s not even worth trying to distribute it there.”
He continued, “What really hurts us is that the words time travel are actually in the title and the main character uses a time travel device.”
China is a large emerging market, approximately 1.35 billion people as of 2012, and not being able to sell a time travel themed film there can really hurt a filmmaker’s bottom line.
Indeed, it’s enough to make sci-fi fans everywhere cringe. Still, sci-fi fans in China are bound to get their fix somewhere despite the ban.
As a matter of fact, Looper starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt has actually become a hit in China despite the ban; however, rewrites of the script were demanded showing China as a super power in the future before distribution was allowed there.
The Investigation of a Time Traveler can be downloaded at www.timetravelermovie.com.

DigiDev (DIDG) is Now THE MOVIE & MUSIC NETWORK; Launches Dedicated Roku App to Strong Reception
The Digital Development Group (DIDG), to better serve its core focus of programming, has changed its operating name to "The Movie & Music Network."
The online content provider, formerly known as DigiDev TV, has been enjoying significant subscriber growth over the last two quarters. Since the launch of the Movie & Music Network website and Roku application March 6th, the Company has seen an approximate 10% increase in subscribers and roughly 15,000 downloads of its application. The simultaneous launch of four new channels brings the total to sixteen channels offered by The Movie & Music Network. Plans are for adding a minimum of ten channels per quarter.
Enthused CEO Martin W. Greenwald, "All of us at the Movie & Music Network have worked long hours to launch of our new network. The result means that our programming is available to over seven million Roku owners."
The Company expects the completion and launch of Android and Apple iOS mobile applications within the next 90 days. Greenwald added, "In the five days since launch we've added approximately 200 new subscribers to our base, which is now over 2000. Additionally, 15,000 households have downloaded our app, and we will get additional subscribers from that universe. We've also raised our price for the network from $4.99 to $5.99 per month for all sixteen of our channels. With over 3000 current titles, we envision growing to 5000 titles by June 30th. Viewing the depth and breadth of our opportunity, I am pleased to see Roku's geographic impact on our base. Since launch, we have signed subscribers from around the world. Brazil, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland and others are joining our widening fan base."
The company has committed to an aggressive marketing campaign set to begin in three weeks. Explains Greenwald, "The bulk of our marketing investment targets multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc) and online advertising on the Roku site, which ensures exposure to millions of viewers. With marketing initiatives, channel and title growth and a fast-growing industry, I am confident we will continue to see monthly double-digit growth rates. And by keeping a very tight rein on expenses, we are closing the gap on our monthly shortfall. Please be sure to visit us at http://www.movieandmusicnetwork.com."

Aria Tesolin Nominated for Top 40 Best New Artist in 2014 New Music Awards
Toronto opera pop singer Aria Tesolin has been nominated for three 2014 New Music Awards, taking place this fall in Hollywood, California. Her radio hit single The Key reached #5 in the US Hot 100 Singles Chart on New Music Weekly in September 2013
Tesolin, known for her distinctive style of classically infused original pop music, has been nominated for Top 40 Best New Artist of the Year for the 2014 New Music Awards. These awards recognize true music industry talent among both independent and major label artists. Other nominees include Lorde, Avicii, Austin Mahone, and Alina Artts. The 2013 winner was Carly Rae Jepsen for her hit song Call Me Maybe. Tesolin was also nominated for Top 40 Breakthrough Artist of the Year and AC Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
Tesolin’s radio hit The Key has attracted wide mainstream audience appeal. A category nomination in Top 40 is a rare event for any pop classical singer. Lyrics and music for The Key were solely composed by Tesolin. The Key is the lead single from Tesolin’s album Ascension released in April 2013, produced by Douglas Romanow.
In September 2013, The Key soared to #5 on the Hot 100 Singles Chart published by New Music Weekly alongside Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry. The Key also reached #9 on Top 40 and #8 on AC, making Aria Tesolin the new #1 Indie artist in Top 40 and #2 in AC, a position formerly held by Fun in Top 40, and Mumford & Sons in AC.
The music video for The Key launches today on VEVO. http://www.vevo.com/artist/aria-tesolin
Tesolin is a recipient of the FACTOR music grant, receiving financial support from the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage (Canada Music Fund) and Canada’s Private Radio Broadcasters.

"Straight & Butch" Goes To HereTV
In 2007, popular gay Philadelphia TV talk show host, Butch Cordora (In Bed With Butch) had a vision: to publish a calendar that recreates iconic photos in pop culture. The catch? The photos would feature Butch, along side a cast of exclusively straight male models. The second catch? They would all be posing nude. Watch as Butch and his team of photographers, models and assistants strive to re-stage everything from Rolling Stone covers to Beatles album art, all the while confronting public indecency laws, a painstaking model search and creative conflicts - not to mention the occasional stage fright. "Straight and Butch" presents an often hilarious behind-the-scenes glimpse of the creative process as it uncovers the naked truth about how much common ground exists between men who play for different teams.
The concept behind my project "Straight and Butch" was to comb the tri-state area to ultimately find 12 beautiful, fit, heterosexual men to strip off their clothes and pose naked in front of a camera for a very provocative (some might say controversial) photo shoot in the hopes of publishing a 2009 calendar. These guys, one by one, would be posing nude with another naked man who happened to be gay. That would be me; Butch. Hence the title, "Straight and Butch". Not only would these 12 brave souls be photographed but also filmed as well, for what would become my 2010 feature length documentary of the same name.
Although on the surface one might say this is a cheesy, cheecky, eye candy, vanity project with little redeeming value, the deeper message was always to make a bold, powerful statement (a social experiment, if you will) about where we are in the world today in regards to tolerance, acceptance, sensitivity, sexuality, masculinity and the human condition; including, but not limited to objectivity. Look, but don't touch. Straight, but not narrow. These 12 very hot, sexy, gorgeous straight men, not only had the courage and conviction to step up to the plate to work with me on this amazing project, but very simply helped me realize one of my dreams.
With a background in journalism and communications, Butch Cordora became host of his own gay TV talk show called "In Bed With Butch" which aired on both Public Access and PBS channels simultaneously in the tri-state area (PA/NJ/Del) from 1999 to 2009. Restless to spread his wings in other artistic directions, he began to dabble in writing, photography and filmmaking which ultimately changed the trajectory of his career. After 3 short films, he was ready to try his hand at producing, directing and starring in his first feature film. Butchs' passion for documentary filmmaking is now leading him down a new path that he hopes will continue and grow, including his next new passion project, more feature films and a docu-series in the works.
*I started shooting the calendar (and the movie) in August, 2006 with hopes of executing a 2008 calendar.
*It was so hard finding guys, not only willing to take a nude photo, but to be filmed naked for a movie, that the calendar got pushed back to 2009.
*We filmed for 2 and a half years!
*Ironically, the very 1st model was Gervase Peterson who many people will know from the very 1st season of "Survivor", not to mention last seasons "Survivor: Blood vs. Water"
*The movie was finally finished in the spring of 2010
*Although I submitted it to approx 25 film festivals in 2010, Qfest was the only festival that accepted it
*It was nominated for "Best Feature Documentary" but lost
*In the fall of 2010, I signed a contract with "Breaking Glass Pictures" and they became my distributor for all of North America
*The movie was release on DVD in April 2011 and sales continues to do well on Amazon, VOD, Barnes and Noble.com, BestBuy.com as well as indy bookstores around the US
*On Feb 18th 2014, I received confirmation that HereTV purchased Straight and Butch through my distributor, Breaking Glass Pictures
*Friday, May 30th, 2014 Straight & Butch begins a one month run on HereTV, airing on and off for an entire year w/the option for renewal after that
* It will also be available on HereTV's SVOD platform as well as their YouTube channel
Being on HereTV is such an incredible opportunity and is, without a doubt, my 1st real national platform to speak of. I sincerely hope my film does gangbusters because I would love to become a part of the HereTV family with hopes of pitching more concepts to "development". I have a lot of coals in the fire including a pretty interesting idea for a 6 to 8 part docu-series that I would love to attempt with them. I don't think HereTV has anything like that going on at the moment and although these ideas are not all worthy of a 90 min documentary, collectively, it's a fascinating project I'm dying to do w/a network. Without giving anything away, let's just say, I fancy myself as "The Gay Morgan Spurlock"!

The McCarrons – "Whatever Next" Album Set For Digital Release
Halifax three piece The McCarrons have announced that the digital release of their debut album Whatever Next is set for April 6th.
Brewed from the best ingredients of classic British bands such as The Who, The Beatles and The Stones, a dash of their mod revival descendants The Jam and The Specials and topped up with a splash of 90’s Britpop such as Ocean Colour Scene and Oasis, it’s a heady brew of sharply honed guitar pop made for today’s generation of cool young turks who don’t want to be told what to listen to by TV so called talent shows.
Brothers Michael (Guitar / Vocals) and Louis (Bass / Vocals) McCarron have been playing pubs and clubs since they were 12 and 11 years old. With Drummer and Vocalist Andy Farrell completing the line-up, in 2012 The McCarrons set about recording their debut album ‘Whatever Next’. Mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Beady Eye, The Killers) the CD version of the album has been a real hit with their live following. April 6th will see the album available on all major digital platforms for the first time.
With an ever growing live reputation and a classy collection of tunes, you are sure to be hearing more from The McCarrons! As it says in the title of track nine on the album ‘They Make Your Day’!

Welcome to Harmony
Currently Filming in Budapest is Miguel Ángel Vivas' horror “Welcome to Harmony”. Starring Jeffrey Donovan (“Burn Notice”) and Matthew Fox (“Lost”). While Ahna O’Reilly (“The Help”), Quinn McColgan (“Non-Stop”), and Clara Lago (“I Want You”) co-star.
Welcome to Harmony tells the tale of Nine years after an infection turns most of humanity into rabid creatures, Patrick, Jack, and Lu, a nine-year-old girl, survive in seeming peace and calm in the forgotten snow-covered town of Harmony. We nonetheless sense that something terrible happened between Patrick and Jack because a deep hate keeps them apart. When the creatures appear again, Patrick and Jack will have to leave behind all rancor to protect the one being who means more to them than anything else.

Based upon true history of Harry Price and the Borely Rectory in Englang. Jason Vail makes his way back into horror news headlines starring in the new horror thriller, "The Rectory", going into production in the fall of 2014. Jason has recently appeared Fox's Sleepy Hollow, CW's The Originals, B.E.T.'s Being Mary Jane and soon to appear on AMC's Halt and Catch Fire as well as feature films Tammy, starring Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon and Million Dollar Arm, starring Jon Hamm. You may remember Jason from his previous films, Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies, Gut and he recently won Best Actor at Fear Fete Horror FIlm Festival in Biloxi, Mississippi, October of 2013 for his role in The Cabin.
More about his current project The Rectory:
British award-winning independent filmmaker based in Orange County, California, Jonathan Chance, is directing The Rectory.
Chance's screenplay Something Like a Phenomenon was a semi-finalist at the prestigious horror film festival Shriekfest in 2012 and now in pre-production of the feature film of the script called The Rectory. The film is based on Borley Rectory the most haunted house in England. It’s something close to the director’s heart, as this unusual and fascinating true ghost story took place right near his childhood home and to this day remains a very big part of British haunted history. The director's dream is to bring this story to the big screen with his unique take on it.
Storyline: "With his reputation on the line, discredited paranormal investigator Harry Price enlists candidates for a year-long experiment in the most haunted house in England. When bizarre accounts begin to mount and the house takes on a life of it's own, his reputation may not be the only thing he will lose."
The production has producer Calvin Vanderbeek, on board in addition horror/sci-fi FX makeup veteran Michele Mulkey. As well as two lead actors Jason Vail (Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies, Gut) as Henry Tennison and Crispian Belfrage (Lions Among Men, The Donner Party) as Harry Price.
The Rectory starts production in the fall shooting in L.A. area.

Hudson Theatre Ensemble of Hoboken, New Jersey proudly presents As Bees in Honey Drown, a comedy romp… with a sting by award-winning playwright, Douglas Carter Beane (The Little Dog Laughed; The Nance). Beane’s wry and entertaining fable skillfully and playfully lampoons a culture hopelessly in love with illusions. In an age that always seems to choose razzle-dazzle image over actual substance, it satires our obsession with getting one’s 15 minutes of fame at any cost. What good is sitting alone in your room when you can come to the cabaret– and what a cabaret it is!

ACTRESS SPOTLIGHT - JASMIN ST. CLAIRE
Daily Film Forum Exclusive::
From National Lampoons Dorm Daze 2, Army of the Damned and her upcoming project Blue Suede join us for A moment with
Jasmin St. Claire
DFF: Your new project, Blue Suede - what’s it about, and tell us about your character in it and how you brought it to life?
My character is Angie Pizzano. I play a very power driven/hungry bad ass woman with a take no prisoners attitude. It's a mob movie. We're filming during the summer..the director, JR Hepburn thought I had the right acting skills & edge to bring her to life.
DFF: How did the project come together in the first place, and how did you end up getting casted?
I was introduced to jr hepburn at a party by an old acquaintance and it was all uphill from there ;)
DFF: When can the public be able to see Blue Suede?
More news at vendetta motion pictures to follow soon.
DFF: National Lampoons Dorm Daze 2, that’s a big franchise of films how was that for you? Tell us about your experience with it and do you get recognized from it?
Its sooooo much fun!! I love National Lampoons & working with the Hillandbrand brothers was fun. I always get recognized from it to this day!!!!
DFF: We hear you also wrote a book? Care to share some details on it with us? Is this your first book as an author and do you plan on writing anymore in the future?
I wrote an autobiography, " what the hell was I thinking , confessions of the works most controversial sex symbol" , but am re releasing it this summer with lots of extras.
DFF: Any future projects you'd like to share?
The caped crusader, which is a batman fan movie, scars of a predator, I just shot a commercial for MTV UK and I have a few shows I'm working on. Catch of the day was also just completed.
DFF: What can you tell us about the career of yours, what got you into modeling and acting, did you receive a formal education on the subject?
I trained with Ted Bardy. I was modeling since I was 10 and my formal education is from Columbia university in business & I'm fluent in 5 languages ;) I tend to get lots of voice over work.
DFF: Any other past films of yours you'd like to talk about?
Army of the damned was cool. I enjoyed working on a project with Michael Berryman and Tony Todd.
DFF: How would you describe yourself as an actor?
Very versatile, definitely can pull off lots of my own stunts , organic and I love playing a bad ass.
