‘Megamind’ is Hilarious

Will Farrell, Tina Fey, and Brad Pitt make up the A-listers who voice the leading characters in Dreamworks new Film, ‘Megamind’. I’m sure these actors didn’t come cheap but it was well worth the big paychecks. This is the kind of film parents will happily take their children too, while having big laughs of their own. The film really counts on fantastic animation that creates believable characters, all-be-it blue characters, who have human emotions. Will Ferrell’s voice leads perfectly to the zany villain Megamind. Brad Pitt, of course, plays the blonde, blue eyed, leading man, as he has his whole career, MetroMan. Which leaves the quirky Tina Fey who refreshingly plays a confident female leading lady that little girls can look up to. All in all, good film for a whole family.

‘Burlesque’ has Old Musical Charm

If you can withstand the clichĂ© beginning of ‘Burlesque’ following Ali (Christina Aguilera) from small town to big city you are in for a treat. A dark look into the behind the scenes lives of showgirls and stage performers. Cher is brilliant as ever. No…really, she’s incredible. She is the musical maven of this fantasy land which houses over choreographed dance numbers and an unrealistic Sunset Strip. This world may be fantasy, it is, however, a fantasy world I loved visiting. The best part of this film, in my opinion is the impeccable Stanley Tucci. He amazingly steals the scenes from legendary divas. I suggest smuggling in a bottle of champagne, finding a reclining chair and enjoying the musical take place in front of you.

Tyler Perry’s ‘For Colored Girls’

I wanted to like ‘For Colored Girls’, Tyler Perry’s big foray into making emotionally invested films not just straight-to-dvd-movies. I enjoyed reading the play, Ntozake Shange’s 1975 “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf’. In fact, I loved the play. However I was worried after reading just the first few pages of monologue how Perry could turn these lengthy narratives into an entertaining Hollywood blockbuster. The answer is…he didn’t. Everyone woman in this film did her best, this is guaranteed. Anika Noni Rose, Loretta Devine, and Kimberly Elise keep the film real. They help the audience invest, emotionally, to the character. But, then there’s Janet Jackson. Perhaps this is because I can’t look at the screen without knowing I’m watching Jackson be anything expect the pop icon/mad woman she is. In any event, she’s by far the weakest link. I will give Tyler Perry this, it was the best film I’ve seen from him. But with the Medea enterprise being the mainstay of his career, that isn’t saying much.

‘Due Date’ is Slightly Stupid

I love Zach Galifianakis (Ethan) and Robert Downey Jr. (Peter). They are both talented actors with brilliant comedic abilities. What could be better than a road trip version of ‘The Hangover’. Unfortunately, that’s not what this film delivers. This doesn’t mean the movies not funny. There were moments in ‘Due Date’ where I had to hold my breath to get rid of the hiccups from laughing so much. Both characters become caricatures of real people. It’s both hilarious and slightly stupid. I like slightly stupid. The humor has little ‘Abbot and Costello’ feel to it with Galifianakis and Downey playing perfectly off of each other and the physical humor has a great old school feeling. I worry this is all lost with the idea that this isn’t ‘Hangover 2’. Enjoy it, it’ll make you laugh.

‘Hereafter’ for Ever

‘Hereafter’ has more energy then most big budget disaster films all wrapped up in a brilliantly acted ensemble drama. Clint Eastwood has taken on death in a gentle, non-religious, realistic way. Eastwood is taking a chance, thankfully, and allowing the audience at ‘Hereafter’ to learn from his characters instead of showing with glorified special effects. George (Matt Damon) is the protagonist dealing with his thoughts and feelings about death and what may come after, and this may be the best I’ve ever seen Damon. He plays George as subtle and real. ‘Hereafter’ will make audience members emote, questioning their own faith, the love they feel toward their mothers, their families, and considering living life now, not later.

THRILLING "AWAKE IN THE WOODS" FILMS

Actor Keith Collins has been cast in many roles before but none like the one he has recently signed on to film. Currently on movie set in the small town of Marion, New York and filming this winters new upcoming highly talked about thriller/horror feature film “Awake In The Woods” Taking some time to sit with us while being mobbed by onlookers. We caught up with Collins who has been on the spooky set that revolves around a wooded area transformed into what one would say is an extremely chilling atmosphere weather it was night or day just being there behind the scenes was making the hairs on the back of our neck stand up and making our minds wander with anticipation while looking at this old abandoned woodsy fog filled area that has been molded into a Hollywood film set. Collins, starting to get into character was able to talk with us for a moment as we were eagerly waiting to find out more about “Awake In The Woods” and what better way than being there right in the middle of the all action. Pleased to say we were able to find out so much more about this new bone chilling film.
Veronica (Galeani), Tucker (Boise), and Derek (Collins) grew up in small town Marion, New York. Everyone in town had heard stories of odd happenings within the Marion woods and the woods became an urban legend everyone assumed was just that, a legend. But when a young girl goes missing within the woods and the paranormal activity begins to heighten Ronnie, Tucker, and Derek decide to investigate. The three friends camp out, hoping to make a documentary about their town’s ghost story, but what happens next, no one could have prepared for. What happened to them is unexplainable and only one was left wandering, alone, awake in the woods.
“Awake In The Woods” will be out early winter of 2011. Produced by MM Mayhem Films the talented cast stars Theresa Galeani, Keith Collins, Nicholas Boise, & Madelaine Kemp.“Awake In The Woods” is written by Galeani & directed by Nicholas Boise. We look forward to seeing “Awake In The Woods” this winter. Sounds like one thrilling movie creep show not to be missed!!

It seems the recipe requires too many plots linked together thru flashbacks, intercepting character situations, and bloody gore. More and more it seems that the only requirement for a ‘good’ horror film is repulsive torture and death scenes. The audience is meant to be believe the character’s poorly realized revelations. I’m am sure ’Saw 3D’ will do well at the box office. This is a film for Saw followers and really no one else.

SUPERMODEL & ACTRESS DEBBIE DICKINSON HOSTS JEWELRY COLLECTION OF ALZERINA

The word is out that Supermodel & Actress Debbie Dickinson will be hosting the beautiful jewelry collection of ALZERINA at the Warren Tricomi Salon Tuesday, and Friday afternoon November 9th& 12th from 12-6pm.

A L Z E R I N A has made a name for herself by fashioning glamorous pieces for both celebrities and her many private clients.Growing up in Cape Verde, A L Z E R I N A was drawn to the world of fashion by her mother, Josepha Gomes, who was a well-known clothing designer. Inspired to start her own clothing line at the young age of 14 Alzerina quickly became adept at her craft and was accepted by the local art community. She soon began to design jewelry for artists, musicians, actors, and an influential clientele on the islands of Cape Verde.
Compelled by the desire for inspiration and the need to create, A L Z E R I N A moved to the fashion capital of Paris. There, she meshed her passion for the world of fashion with the beauty of the city and its people. In 1998, after eight years in the high fashion world of Paris, she headed to New York City where she created her own label.
Once in New York, A L Z E R I N A acquired yet more experience and perfected her art. Her dedication to beauty, elegance, and femininity is reflected in her jeweled creations. She draws inspiration from her clients’ style and sensibilities and therefore designs each piece individually. Her creations emerge as art in the form of exquisite jewelry and high-fashion intimate wear.
Although A L Z E R I N A is known for her intricately crafted jewelry worn by women who love to feel and look good, she is also recognized for her line of intimate jeweled lingerie. Her lingerie, designed especially for the fashionably bold, features bra and panty sets made of thin chains embedded with colorful Swarovski crystals. These pieces epitomize style and a feminine grace. The lingerie is considered “couture” due to its unique and distinctive quality and craftsmanship.
A L Z E R I N A 's collections continue to appeal to singers, musicians, and dancers but are now appreciated by an increasingly wider worldwide audience due to her successful web sales. Brides shop for their wedding party jewelry ensembles, while her lovely designs are on the ‘must buy’ list of anyone shopping for a Valentine gift, an anniversary or birthday, a holiday wardrobe or for ‘that special something’ to spark up a day at the office.
There’s something for everyone in A L Z E R I N A ’s beautiful new collection – where she continues to be just a step ahead of the trend while remaining classic with her popular best-selling favorites.

Restaurant Spotlight - NYC's Centro Vinoteca

A casually elegant neighborhood restaurant, Centro Vinoteca showcases boldly flavored cooking rooted in the traditions of Italy. The sleek and stylish space is bright and white as the light floods in through the floor to ceiling window panes. Each curve and bend of the oddly shaped bar begs you to join her for a drink. The aromas from open kitchen tease, tempt and toy with you as they urge you order something more. Start with piccolini - small shareable plates designed to whet the appetite such as truffled deviled eggs or saffron arancine before delving into the well-priced main menu. For antipasti try the grilled octopus with white bean puree or the grilled pizzetta with slow-cooked tomatoes. But the real reason for visiting Centro Vinoteca is the pastas. Think simple, organic, local ingredients. Try the papardelle with roasted wild mushrooms or the roasted butternut squash pansotti with sage and toasted walnuts. The wine list features over 200 wines from throughout Italy, including many available by the quartino. Come for a drink... and stay for the friendly staff and the seasoned chefs.

‘It’s Kind of a Funny Story’ – Galifianakis Hilarious!

I love Zach Galifianakis. I love him and could not miss another opportunity to see him on the big screen and I’m glad I didn’t. ‘It’s Kind of a Funny Story’ is not a perfect film, far from it. I have a difficult time laughing at the mentally ill and suicide attempts. I find it pathetic that this dark comedy didn’t even attempt to show any actuality of what occurs in a mental ward, but instead poke fun at the clichĂ© patients. The saving grace of this film is the actors who do such an incredible job forcing the audience to love them and cheer for them. Keir Gilchrist (Craig) portrays a depressed New York City teenager who admits himself to a psychiatric ward after considering suicide. Inside he meets Galifianakis (Bobby) who acts as a mentor within the ward. A love story ensues including tween actress Emma Roberts (Noelle) and the audience is taken on a humorous and tame rollercoaster ride. A must see movie for no other reason then seeing Galifianakis be a little more upbeat then his usual characters.

‘Jackass 3D’ is No Better then Jackass 2D

The men who brought us self-mutilation and friendly humiliation are back again and this time they’re sober. Unfortunately sobriety hasn’t made them any funnier or less degrading to watch. The old gangs back together; Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, and Steve-O are back with a vengeance. All that seems to change is the amount of gray hairs on their aging heads. The boys are still playing pranks that would make inmates blush and injuring themselves for the sake of their 20-something audiences. Its been 10 years since new Jackass episodes aired on MTV but, apparently, there is still a high demand for watching grown men act like poorly behaved children. In the end ‘Jackass 3D’ is exactly what I expected and if I enjoyed watching men get hit in the head in slow motion I would have loved the move…but, I don’t.

THERESA GALEANI WINS BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS & BEST PRODUCER AWARD

Theresa Galeani was the big winner taking home two coveted awards from the 2010 Downbeach Film Festival Atlantic City Cinefest at Resorts Hotel and Casino. Galeani won Best Supporting Actress for the art-thriller "Non Compos Mentis" and prestigious Best Producer Award for her work on adventure-thriller "A Fight for Survival". Next up for this award winner is the much anticipated "Awake in the Woods" (2011), Galeani's first foray into screen writing.

‘Life as We Know It’ Isn’t Worth It

Director Greg Berlanti has made a career out of tv melodrama’s including ‘Brother’s and Sisters’, ‘Dawson’s Creek’, and ‘Everwood’. This fall his foray onto the big screen is a little more comedy and a little less drama. ‘Life as We Know It’, staring Josh Duhamel (Eric) and Katherine Heigl (Holly) tells the story of two adults with mutual friends who die in a car crash and name ladies man Eric and obsessive compulsive Holly as guardians of their baby. ‘Life as We Know It’ utilizes all of the traditional ‘baby humor’ we’ve scene before; poop jokes, inappropriate urinating, awkward actions in front of the child, etc. The basic plot has promise, one can imagine all the awful things that could go wrong in this situation. However, first time screenplay writers Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson have a lot to learn about what makes a good movie. I’m going to look at ‘Life as We Know It’ as a learning experience for both writers, a mistake we will sweep under the rug for Berlanti, and merely a paycheck for Duhamel and Heigl.

LA LA BROOKS ROCKS LEGENDARY BB KINGS IN NEW YORK CITY

History was made Wednesday night when La La Brooks, the legendary lead singer of Phil Spector’s very first girl group, the Crystals took the stage at BB Kings Blues Club in New York City’s Time’s Square. Joining her on stage for the huge hit “Da Do Ron Ron” was Nicole Spector, Phil Spector’s 27 year old daughter. Also seen in the crowd, internationally known artist Mark Kostabi who said of the show “Lala's performance was first rate and the music was hauntingly beautiful last night at B.B. Kings. She had 10 back-up musicians. It was transporting and something about the red curtains, the epic sound and the 3 swaying back-up singers made me think of a David Lynch movie or other recent film directors that use that 50s/60s wall of sound.”

‘Case 39’ Has a Bad Case of Bad-Movie-ism

I can only assume that the estimated $27 million budget for ‘Case 39’ was spent paying Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper’s salaries. ‘Case 39’ has nothing a horror audience hasn’t seen before in all the popular children filled paranormal films coming out recently. ‘Case 39’ isn’t spooky or scary at all. The only thing it has going for it is that it keeps a dark mood throughout and two ‘name’ stars to help sell box office. Its second half of the films predictability ruins the initial quarter of the movie when I thought ‘Case 39’ had a chance.

Paranormal Activity 2- Twice as Spooky?

The first installment of ‘Paranormal Activity’ drew you in but selling you that it was real. Just like the Blair Witch film before it, ‘Paranormal Activity’ needed an audience to believe that this was a true story that could happen to you. And it worked. The POV filming was gritty and the editing led toward this being a home movie. But now that we all know the movie was just that, a movie with actors, and a director, and a script, what’s the point of a sequel. The fear that this was real is gone. Now its just a B-horror film like the thousands of others released annually. That does not, however, mean that the film is bad. ‘Paranormal Activity 2’ kept my interest and continued the story we were told of the young couple living in a possessed home. The cast is kept small and intimate and it doesn’t appear they had a larger budget on this one. All in all, wait for the dvd and buy both as a combo at your local Best Buy when they’re on sale.

Not "You Again"

A chick flick in the same vain as "Freaky Friday", full of odd female mis-haps, slapstick humor, and girly scheming, "You Again" takes an A-list cast of Kirsten Bell, Sigourney Weaver, and Jamie Lee Curtis and puts them in unfortunate situations. "You Again" follows the story of Marni, played by Bell, who finds her brother is marrying her high school nemesis. More quasi-comical-conicidences occur when the mother of the groom finds that the mother of the bride was her high school nemesis....very unlikely. The plot is predictable and the characters are unbelievable. There were a few moments where I did laugh out loud at the complete absurdity, but those moments were few and far between. The bottom line is I'd absolutely reccommend this movie for a young mother-daughter date, it is, after all, rated PG and very young adult friendly.

JANNA MATTIOLI'S NEW FILM "BIDENTITY CRISIS"

Filmmaker Jana Mattioli Currently on movie set in New York City and filming this winters new upcoming Comedy film “BIdentity Crisis” Taking some time to sit with us and letting us snap a quick picture. We caught up with Mattioli
who on the set that revolves around a NYC CafĂ© by day & transformed into a movie set by night. With lots of spectators and film crews running around surrounded by many lights and cameras, Mattioli was able to talk with us for a moment as we were eagerly waiting to find out more about “BIdentity Crisis” and what better way than being there right in the middle of the all action. Pleased to say we were able to find out so much more about this new Hilarious Comedic film. There are people in this world who long to be someone great, someone important, someone of great moral value, however, Helen and Phillip are not those people. Helen, originally from Chicago, longs to be the trendy "Sex in the City" girl, where she can have her party and dance at it to. Phillip, a good looking party boy who is in the bizz and is just the right amount of Carrie Bradshaw excitement she needs after a break-up with her loser ex-boyfriend Vinny. After dating for over a month Helen realizes that the trendiest thing about Phillip is hurting the relationship. True, Phillip is a party boy, but he likes to party with the boys.
Phillip is bisexual but wants to be with women. Helen wants to be trendy but is uncomfortable. They put a new stamp on "Be careful what you wish for, ya just might get it." With the help of a flamboyant waiter who recognizes Philip and a sassy cashier who loves to watch the drama unfold, BIdentity is a NY drama with a just the right twist of a gay lemon. "BIdentity" tells a story of coming out of the closet...sort of.
“BIdentity Crisis’ will be out early winter of 2011 & will hit the festival circuit. Produced by Mattioli Productions the funny film stars Elissa Goldstein as Helen, Keith Collins as Jamie & Lisa Kapchinske as Clara.“BIdentity Crisis” is directed by Jana Mattioli & written by
Zach Rothman-Hicks. We look forward to seeing “BIdentity Crisis” this soon. Sounds like one comedy ride not to be missed!

Ben Affleck Impresses with "The Town"

Ben Affleck's "The Town" shows off his immense talent as a triple threat; writer, director, and actor. "The Town" follows a life long thief and criminal in his plotting of his latest heist. Watching this film makes the audience root for the bad guy, which shows the brilliance of Affleck's writing abilities. The cast, including Blake Lively, John Hamm, Jeremy Renner, and Pete Postlewaite, support Affleck's vision beautifully. I had little faith in Lively's performance but was pleasantly impressed with her portayl of Krista. In addition to the great character performances the action sequences kept the audience on the edge of their seats. All around, great film. Highly reccommended.
